Eleven Former School Board Members Endorse Maria Koliantz

11former WLCSC board members
98combined years of service

As former members of the West Lafayette Community School Corporation Board of Trustees, we served a combined 98 years representing this community. We come from different backgrounds and didn’t always agree at the table, but we share deep gratitude for West Lafayette schools and those who make them exceptional: students, teachers, and families.

Our service taught us that an effective board member isn’t defined by a single issue but by how they approach the role. As you consider your vote this fall, look for four qualities:

  1. A willingness to learn the role

Board service involves school finance, state law, policy, and the governance–management line. No one knows it all; effective members seek training, ask questions, and learn their responsibilities before proposing changes.

  2. The ability to work well with others

A school board is a seven-member team. Nothing gets done alone. Effective members disagree respectfully, listen, and build consensus without turning every difference into a fight.

  3. Open, consistent communication

Trust is essential to good governance and is built through regular, professional communication with fellow board members, the superintendent, and the public—not just during meetings.

  4. Putting students first

Every decision should begin and end with one question: What is best for our students? Board service is a public trust, not a platform for personal agendas or recognition.

We believe Maria Koliantz, John Robinson, and Laurence Wang embody these qualities. They’ve done the work to understand the role, listen and collaborate respectfully, communicate clearly, and keep the focus where it belongs: on West Lafayette students.

Please join us in supporting Maria Koliantz, John Robinson, and Laurence Wang for the West Lafayette School Board.
